Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.

Under the domestic TSE Regulations, SRM which is vertebral column from bovine carcasses must be removed in a cutting plant which is authorised by the FSA for this activity. SRM which is spinal cord from older sheep or goats may be removed in a slaughterhouse or a cutting plant which is authorised by the FSA.
Fipronil is unauthorised for use in food-producing animals, we have acted with urgency to ensure that consumers are protected. Some of the products made from these eggs will have had a short shelf life and will have already been consumed, however, we identified some that were still within the expiry date. These are now being withdrawn by the businesses involved, a list of these withdrawn products are detailed in this dataset.

The Gen Z sample is of generation Z only 16- 25 year olds and has a sample size of 619.
The Animal and Plant Health Agency carry out egg hygiene inspections on behalf of the Food Standards Agency to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety regulations at hen egg producing establishments. An annual report of key performance indicators is produced, including numbers of inspections and follow up visits, enforcement actions undertaken and levels of compliance. Compliant establishments are those where no improvements are needed. Figures are also provided for Production Population including details of types of production, numbers of units and numbers of hens.
