Review of policy and procedures for the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) safeguards for food businesses

The FSA commissioned this independent review to look at the FHRS safeguards for businesses – the appeal process, requests for re-inspection and right to reply, with the primary focus on appeals – and to identify any improvements that could be made. Evidence was gathered from a wide range of local authority, industry and consumer stakeholders as well as from FSA officials administering FHRS.

The information is being published as open data on the FSA’s website and will be used to obtain stakeholder feedback on content and format, during future phases of an Alpha development project. It is the first step in making sure we get information in a format that is useful for others to interpret, with an overall aim of being able to learn from incidents to reduce the risk of them recurring.
